Barcelona
IDEAL. Centre d'Arts Digitals, also known as IDEAL Montjuïc, is Barcelona's permanent centre for digital arts. It occupies the Palau Victòria Eugènia on Montjuïc, at Plaça de Carles Buïgas 7 in the Sants-Montjuïc district, and is run by the production company Layers of reality.
The core of the venue is a large immersive hall with 1,000 square metres of screens, 360-degree projection and virtual reality. Instead of one permanent exhibition, the centre stages immersive productions that rotate over time, so it is worth checking the current programme before a visit.
A visit centres on the main projection space, where moving images cover the walls on all sides around the viewer. The 360-degree projection surrounds the audience completely and turns each production into an enveloping visual sequence, complemented by virtual reality.
Because the programme changes, the experience depends on which production is currently on. Los últimos días de Pompeya, an immersive journey to the Roman city, was one of the house productions and has now ended. The agenda on the official website lists what is currently showing.
- The centre is open daily from 10:00 to 22:00, with special schedules for individual exhibitions.
- Tickets start at EUR 14.00 from Monday to Friday and at EUR 19.50 on weekends and public holidays, depending on the exhibition.
- Current programme and tickets are available at idealbarcelona.com.
