Zeiss-Planetarium Jena

The Zeiss Planetarium Jena is the oldest continuously operating planetarium in the world, opened on 18 July 1926.

For its 100th anniversary it was modernized and reopened on 18 July 2026: eleven ZEISS VELVET 4K projectors for an 8K dome, a refurbished UNIVERSARIUM star projector and a new 3D sound system unique in Europe.

The program ranges from astronomy to music shows to yoga in the dome: Queen Heaven, Die Olchis and classic starry skies fill the weekly schedule.

The ZEISS production Into the Infinite, a fulldome and VR piece, won a JANUS award in 2026. The hybrid operation of optical star projector and digital dome gives the Jena sky its particular depth.
