Münster

The LWL-Planetarium sits inside the LWL-Museum für Naturkunde in Münster: 224 seats beneath a dome 20 meters across. The projection system was renewed in May 2026, and the planetarium reopened on 14 May 2026 with an 8K fulldome setup of ten projectors. Sound comes as 360-degree spatial audio through 49 speakers.

The programme pairs astronomy fulldome shows with dome concerts such as Queen Heaven and The Dark Side of the Moon. The new bilingual German and English show Auf zum Mond und weiter zum Mars starts on 11 October 2026. The museum's permanent exhibitions are currently closed for conversion.

Inside the dome the room opens upward: the 8K image from ten projectors stretches across the full 20-meter surface while the 360-degree spatial sound places music and effects around the audience. Astronomy shows follow the sky in motion, from the surface of the Moon toward Mars.

On concert nights the dome becomes the stage: Queen Heaven and The Dark Side of the Moon turn the hall into a full-surround listening experience. The new show Auf zum Mond und weiter zum Mars plays in German and English, which makes it an easy entry point for international visitors.
