02 · About the exhibition

Niedermuhlern

High above Bern on the Uecht hill, the Space Eye Observatorium Uecht is a public observatory for astronomy and the environment. Its centrepiece is an 8K planetarium with a dome ten metres in diameter, equipped with the Digistar 7 system and six Canon 4K laser projectors for 80 seats. Next to the dome stands the largest telescope in Switzerland, and an interactive exhibition completes the site.

There are no continuous opening hours. A visit works through ticketed public formats: the afternoon programme with exhibition and planetarium show on Saturdays (seasonally also on Sundays), the Kids in Space afternoons on Wednesdays, the Stargaze evenings on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays depending on the season, and the Night Sky Explorer once a month. Guided tours and group visits can be booked separately.

The afternoon format pairs the interactive exhibition with a show under the dome. Six Canon 4K laser projectors feed the ten-metre dome through the Digistar 7 system, and at 8K resolution the simulated sky stands dense with stars. With 80 seats the experience stays close: the projection wraps around the room instead of playing on a distant screen.

On the Stargaze evenings and the monthly Night Sky Explorer, the view shifts from simulation to the real night sky over the Uecht hill. Children get their own slot with Kids in Space on Wednesday afternoons, and the exhibition can be visited on its own on Saturdays or Sundays from 13:30 to 17:00.
