Van Gogh & Rembrandt in Amsterdam
02 · About the exhibition
Amsterdam
Van Gogh & Rembrandt in Amsterdam is a 360-degree sound and light show staged inside the Noorderkerk, a church on the Noordermarkt in the Jordaan. The projection traces how Van Gogh drew on Rembrandt and places the two painters in direct dialogue. The organisers are explicit that this is not the Van Gogh Museum: it is a show in a church, not a collection.
The programme runs continuously with several shows daily and no end date has been announced. Each show lasts about 40 minutes, with a new screening starting every hour.
You take a seat on a chair, a pew or a bean bag, and for about 40 minutes projection and sound fill the interior of the church. The 360-degree staging surrounds the audience on all sides.
The story follows a single line: how Van Gogh drew on Rembrandt. Because shows start every hour, it is easy to fit a screening into your day, and the seated format keeps the visit compact.
