About the exhibition

Vienna

Come, Sit, Stay at Belvedere 21 is the first European solo exhibition of Shanghai-born artist Miao Ying. The title quotes dog commands, setting the training of dogs against the way humans train artificial intelligence.

Miao Ying, born in Shanghai in 1985, has long examined how AI, surveillance and state control shape our visual world; for Vienna she also translates AI-generated imagery into painting.

The exhibition moves between video, simulation and painting. At its center stands 'Perfect Sameness Makes Difference' (2026), an AI orchestra piece that keeps regenerating as a live simulation throughout the run of the show. Alongside it, 'Magic Cabinet' and 'Magic Triptych No. 1' carry medieval metaphors of magic and alchemy over to the mysteries of contemporary technology.
