Refik Anadol: Glacier Dreams
02 · About the exhibition
Zürich
The Kunsthaus Zürich shows Glacier Dreams (2023), the immersive AI installation by Refik Anadol. Bank Julius Baer commissioned the work and gifted it to the museum. It is installed in a space built specially for it, with LED walls and mirrors.
The installation has been on view since 18 January 2025 and, according to the museum, will remain on show at least until the end of January 2027. Glacier Dreams is part of the collection presentation and is therefore accessible with the standard collection ticket.
The room is the work: on the first floor of the Chipperfield building, a cube of LED walls and mirrors surrounds visitors with the image on every side, and the reflections carry it onward as if the space had no edges. The contrast with the museum's classical galleries could hardly be greater.
Because the imagery is generated by artificial intelligence and never stands still, the work rewards a few patient minutes more than a passing glance. And since it belongs to the collection presentation, it combines easily with the rest of a visit to the Kunsthaus.
- The Kunsthaus Zürich is at Heimplatz 1; it opens Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00 and Thursday from 10:00 to 20:00, and closes on Mondays.
- The collection ticket (CHF 24, reduced CHF 17) also covers Glacier Dreams; children under 13 enter free.
- Large exhibitions cost CHF 31 (reduced CHF 22) and the All in One ticket CHF 36 (reduced CHF 25); current information is available at kunsthaus.ch.
