02 · About the exhibition

Karlsruhe

Hidden on Tape. Frühe Videokunst in Europa runs from 28 November 2026 to 30 May 2027 at the ZKM in Karlsruhe, filling Lichthof 1 and 2 with the early years of European video art.

The ZKM is one of the world's leading houses for media art; the exhibition is included in museum admission.

The show gathers works from the pioneering years, when videotape was still a physical object and artists discovered the medium as a tool for performance, installation and narrative. Within the context of the ZKM it tells how magnetic tape and picture tubes became an art form of their own.
