Madrid
CARNE Y ARENA is the solo virtual reality installation by filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu, presented at Espacio Fundación Telefónica in Madrid. The work received a special Academy Award in 2017 and was the first VR project in the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival that same year.
The installation is built on real testimonies of Mexican and Central American migrants and refugees. It is conceived as an individual experience of about 20 minutes, in which each visitor moves through several virtual reality stations.
The visit follows an individual itinerary through several VR stations. Each visitor goes through the sequence alone, and the full experience takes about 20 minutes.
At the core are the real testimonies of Mexican and Central American migrants and refugees. The format asks for attention and presence: for about 20 minutes you are inside the account, not in front of it.
- The installation runs from 17 November 2026 to 28 March 2027 at Espacio Fundación Telefónica, C/ Fuencarral 3, Madrid.
- Opening hours: Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 20:00, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays from 11:00 to 20:00, closed on Mondays.
- Prices are not yet published: the opening of ticket booking will be announced on the Espacio Fundación Telefónica website.
