Planetarium Hamburg

The Planetarium Hamburg is one of the world's most traditional star theatres and at the same time one of its most modern: a 21 metre dome with 8K projection and 3D sound, uniting scientific shows and artistic music programmes under the same ceiling.

The programme lists more than 20 standing productions, from astronomy and nature to music shows such as Queen Heaven, Dark Side of the Moon and Cosmic Jazz.

The difference from a cinema screen is the shape of the image: the dome wraps the projection around you, and the spatial sound moves with it. Science shows use this to fly you through the solar system; the music shows turn albums into architecture of light.

The music programmes are the house's immersive insider tip: entire albums, orchestrated and visualised for the dome, from Krautrock panoramas to Queen. If you like immersive art, this is the oldest format of the genre.
