The best immersive and AI exhibitions in Hamburg

Hamburg is rarely mentioned as Germany's capital of immersive art, yet the search numbers tell another story: no German city is searched more often together with "immersive exhibition". And the city on the Elbe delivers, from HafenCity to the Stadtpark.

Port des Lumières: the immersive art hub

The single most important address is the Port des Lumières in the Überseequartier of HafenCity. Across more than 1,700 square metres of projection surface it rotates 360-degree shows covering the whole spectrum: Gustav Klimt: Gold in Motion has been running since June 2026, Ocean Wonders has been diving into the deep sea since March, and from 29 August Monet: Master of Impressionism joins the programme, with a side exhibition on Félix Vallotton. If you only see one show, make it Monet: the start of the new season.

Prices and times at a glance

Weekday tickets start at 19 euros, weekends at 23 euros, with concessions and family tickets available. Opening hours are daily 9 am to 10 pm, last entry one hour before closing. Shows run as loops of roughly 50 minutes, so you can combine two shows in a single visit.

Digital art at museum scale

The big prize of 2026 is the UBS Digital Art Museum: 6,500 square metres of digital art in HafenCity, opening with teamLab Borderless, the first European outpost of the Tokyo collective. The exact opening date is still pending, but ticket pre-orders are live. And from 30 October the Deichtorhallen present a major survey of Hito Steyerl, the defining artist of the AI era: video, databases and the politics of the digital image.

The Planetarium: star of the Stadtpark

The Planetarium Hamburg in the Stadtpark water tower is the world's oldest planetarium and one of its most modern: a 21-metre dome, 8K projection, 3D sound. Beyond astronomy, music shows take centre stage, from Queen Heaven to Cosmic Jazz. From 18 September an immersive show around the music of Imagine Dragons is scheduled, though its dates still need confirmation on the venue's own site.

Illusions, VR and a slice of Reeperbahn

For a more hands-on experience: the Paradox Museum on Alter Wall packs more than 50 illusion exhibits into the city centre, photo-friendly and a stone's throw from the town hall. In the Speicherstadt, YULLBE WUNDERLAND shrinks visitors into the world of Miniatur Wunderland, a free-roam VR experience. And on the Reeperbahn, PANIK CITY tells the universe of Udo Lindenberg through AR and VR, in German and on guided tours only.

Festivals and dates 2026

Autumn is the best season for digital art in Hamburg: COLO Vol. 02 shows Hamburg-made art at Port des Lumières from 6 to 8 November, and the VRHAM! Biennale in the Oberhafen expects its next edition in 2027.

Practical tips for your visit

HafenCity is minutes from the centre on the U4 (Überseequartier); the Planetarium sits at the Stadtpark, U1/S1 to Ohlsdorf plus bus. Combine Port des Lumières and the Paradox Museum in one day, both within a ten-minute walk. For teamLab Borderless a pre-order is worth it as soon as the date is announced.
