02 · About the exhibition

St. Gallen

In “Arrow of Time”, the Lithuanian artist and filmmaker Emilija Škarnulytė fills the Lokremise hall of the Kunstmuseum St.Gallen with film, light and sculptural installations. The exhibition is conceived as an immersive whole in which science, fiction and planetary timescales meet.

The central work draws on footage shot inside Lithuania’s decommissioned Ignalina nuclear power plant, a sister plant of Chernobyl. From this material Škarnulytė builds images that move between science and fiction and connect the scale of a single place with the deep timescales of the planet.

The exhibition unfolds in the large hall of the Lokremise, where film, light and sculpture are staged as one installation rather than as separate works. You move freely through the space, and the elements combine into a single experience that takes its time.

The images from the Ignalina nuclear power plant set the tone of the visit: you watch footage recorded inside a decommissioned facility, a sister plant of Chernobyl, while the exhibition uses this material to link technology, fiction and planetary time.
