Monet: Master of Impressionism (Port des Lumières)

Monet: Master of Impressionism is the new immersive show at Port des Lumières Hamburg, opening on 29 August 2026. Across more than 1,700 square metres of projection surface, the work of Claude Monet becomes a moving, soundtracked panorama.

Claude Monet is considered the founder of Impressionism: light, water and the seasons of his garden at Giverny form the core of his late work. The show translates those paintings into large-scale projections accompanied by music.

You walk through Monet's world step by step: the water lily ponds, Rouen cathedral in shifting light, the fields of Argenteuil. The choreography tells less a story than a state, the perpetual flow of light that Monet spent his life trying to pin down.

The same ticket includes the side exhibition Felix Vallotton: Light in the Darkness, devoted to the Swiss painter of the Nabis circle, whose high-contrast scenes lend themselves remarkably well to projection.
